Interesting Mobile Search Stats

2024 is set to be the year of mobile search. As consumers turn to tablets and smartphones to get their search fix, businesses are forced to cater for users on a variety of desktop and mobile devices.

The Mobile User Experience

It seems that there is currently a strong perception that mobile sites have a poor user experience. 37% of users think mobile sites are difficult to navigate and 38% would stop using a site if it was too difficult to use. Some of the main issues include slower loading times, problems scrolling horizontally and vertically and links that are too small to click on.

Isn’t there an App for That?

For some businesses, it is worth taking the time to create an app that their customers can use. However, apps can be expensive and sometimes be off-putting for the impatient user that has to wait for it to download. As a result, mobile sites are slightly more popular than apps and successful at converting users into purchases. 40% of UK mobile searchers reported intent to make a purchase within a day of their search. 22% of which were within an hour.

Purchases Via Mobile Websites Versus Purchases On Apps

Even Google is changing their approach to search, and in particular PPC, with Enhanced Campaigns and Universal Analytics helping businesses to succeed a multi-screen world.

Here you can see Google’s rationale on the importance of mobile, finding that 65% of the time a user’s first interaction is on a mobile device on route to conversion vs. 25% from desktop.
